MAGNUM CINEMA

50 years of cinema history, documented by the photographs of the Magnum agency.

For almost five decades the French photo agency has specialized in reporting on international film events. The close personal and friendship ties beween Magnum photographers and the film world resulted in a number of photographic documentations. These photographs have become legendary and are among the best-known film stills, portraits and movie icons of the history of cinema.

On the occasion of the centennial of the existence of film, Magnum has opened its archives and brought together both familiar and not so well-known material fo an international traveling exhibition with the title “MAGNUM CINEMA”. These include photographs by stars such as Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, David Seymour, Eve Arnold, Philippe Halsman, Inge Morath, among others. The selection of pictures includes photographic reports of film production, private material, portraits of stars and film directors as well as a number of surprising insights into the private and public history of cinema.

The Exhibition “MAGNUM CINEMA” is a co-production of “hundertjahrekino”, a project of the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Art, and of the Kunsthalle Wien.

Open daily, except for Tuesday, 1–9 p.m.
