ILLUSION - EMOTION - REALITY

The 7th art in search of the 6 others

September, October, November 1996

“It is an exhibition which should make one want to experience film again, in a cinema, in real mega-projections, with the right speed, with the right format. Our contribution to this is a subjective selection of sequences chosen with the following two aspects in mind: the theme, for one, and then also the director as proof of an author’s signature”. (Harald Szeemann) The exhibition thus also comprises films emblematic for stars, anti-heros, the violation of taboos or science fiction. These and other themes are to be illuminated by a number of films both from the early period of cinema and from the most recent past. The first film – the train of the Lumière brothers pulling into the station – will be shown along with the seldomly show movies or film classics produced by famous directors from Woody Allen to Fred Zinnemann.
